TARDY/GUM/CANDY DISCIPLINE POLICY
As custodians of
costly public property and in the interest of students’ health, it is necessary
to maintain a no gum or candy policy.
Students chewing gum or eating candy will be told to dispose of it. The following consequences apply for gum,
candy and tardiness:
First offense Warning
Second offense Behavior Report
Third offense Referral to
office for detention
Fourth offense and
beyond Referral to office for
ISS
OSS may be assigned
at administrative discretion.
STUDENT DRESS CODE DISCIPLINE POLICY
Parent
brings change of clothing for all offenses.
First Offense Behavior

Second Offense Referral for detention
Third Offense Referral for ISS
6th
grade students will be given one warning before going on to 1st
offense consequences.
If the parent cannot be reached, the student may be required to
change into school issued articles of clothing and/or be assigned to In-School Suspension.
(MP3 Players, IPod’s, hand-held gaming devices, cameras etc…)
A student in
possession of a cell phone or other electronic device that is visible, turned
on, or in use on the school campus during school hours or on a
school bus is in violation of the Martin County School District Student Conduct
and Discipline Code. A teacher or
staff member will take the phone or device and give it to an
administrator. A parent or guardian will
be required to pick up the phone or device from Mrs. Rush in the front office. The student in violation of the policy will
serve an after school detention.
Multiple offenses may result in ISS.
If a cellular device is used in a criminal act, criminal penalties may
result.
CHEATING
DISCIPLINE POLICY
This is considered
an academic problem and should be handled by the individual teacher. Notify parents as soon as the cheating
occurs.
What is cheating?
1. Copying someone else’s work, test, or
homework.
2. Looking or glancing around the room during a
test, particularly in the direction
of another student’s desk.
3. The use, or attempted use, of any
unauthorized materials or means in a
testing or homework situation including
using a “cheat sheet”, notes taken in
class, information written on hands, desk,
body parts, clothing, book covers,
or any other material.
4. Talking during a test for any reason.
5. Plagiarizing or representing someone else’s
work as your own. This
includes, but is not limited to:
¨
word for word
copying of a source,
¨
copying sections of
someone else’s work,
¨
modifying a small
portion of someone else’s words,
¨
incorrect
documentation, or
¨
making up sources.
6. Using someone else’s work as a guide without
permission or authorization.
7. Sharing assigned homework by doing only a
portion with the intent of
exchanging the portion for a portion done
by another student.
8. In physical activities, lying about the
completion of an activity such
as number of sit-ups or cutting through
laps, is considered cheating.
9. A teacher may reasonably assume a student is
cheating or attempting to
cheat if an assignment which is handed in
is identical, item for item, in
appearance to another student’s work.
WHAT DISCIPLINARY ACTION
1. Zero on test or assignment with no make-up.
2. Parent notification or conference
3. Referral to Student Services as
documentation, parent contact, warning,
and/or disciplinary action including after
school detention, ISS or OSS.
BULLYING DISCIPLINE POLICY
Bullying is
behavior directed from one person to another which causes feelings inadequacy,
fear, intimidation, anxiety, depression, or any other feeling of discomfort
such as:
Ø Assault (tripping, pushing, shoving, hitting, spitting)
Ø Intimidation
Ø Harassment
Ø Name calling
Ø Picking on, making fun of, or laughing at someone
Ø Rumor spreading
Ø Isolation, or excluding someone
Ø Demands for money
Ø Destruction of another’s property or work
Ø Theft
Bullying
is unacceptable behavior and will result in disciplinary action.
